I was a student of Min Yue (Becky) for 3 years between 2020-2023. I saw Becky once to twice a week over Zoom to compliment my existing school curriculum. This would often entail covering grammatical points and sentence structures whilst simultaneously improving my listening and speaking. I would highly recommend Becky, as whilst being professional in her teaching, she too gave the impression that she valued my abilities. This allowed me the confidence to reach further in my studies. I went on to achieved grade 8 at GCSE and M3 at Pre-U, which was helped enormously by Becky and now I am studying traditional and simplified Chinese at SOAS.

The best choice to whom seeking a Professional, Educated and Friendly tutor. Becky (Yue Min) is an extremely good Chinese teacher and I continue to have lessons with her to this day. She is very flexible and enthusiastic and has a very good teaching style! I believe that her system has been much more effective than a large majority of tutors that I've used in the past. What is especially good about her is that she is patient. I feel I am the type of person that takes a little longer to learn things. Becky's instruments to help me understand the core basics has given me a foundation in which I am able to practically learn on my own. I have to say that it is worth the effort, time, and money put into the sessions with her.

I am native Hong Kong Chinese living in the UK. Although I speak Cantonese, I wanted to learn Conversational and Business Mandarin as my husband and I had recently started a financial website, which in time, will extend coverage to Hong Kong and Chinese stocks. I have been studying with Becky for around 3 years. Becky is delightful as a teacher and always engaging. She is very flexible with her teaching material and always responds to whatever topic I wanted to learn. When I go back to Hong Kong, my mainland Chinese family members and friends all commented on my perfect mandarin accent and proficiency in the language. For whatever reason you are learning Mandarin Chinese, I have no reservations in recommending Becky.

Studying mandarin with Becky (Min Yue) was a really valuable experience. I found the one-to-one style of learning the best way to make solid progress in the language and Becky’s teaching style was very thorough and engaging. Becky helped me to be well-prepared for my HSK 3 examination and achieve 99% in this exam. I would certainly recommend Becky as a mandarin teacher to anyone who is dedicated and committed to learning the language.

I can’t begin to describe how genuinely enjoyable this course was, and the more I reflected on it, the more I realized how much of that came from Yue Laoshi’s (Professor Min Yue) interactive and lighthearted approach during her tutorials. She brought a level of energy, patience, and clarity that made each session feel welcoming and easy to follow all while somehow managing her time well enough to individually help everyone. Instead of feeling like a typical, rigid language course, Foundation Chinese 1 became a real cultural exchange, one where the language, history, and everyday culture of 中国 (China) were woven into each lesson. Because of her teaching style, the content never felt intimidating or cumbersome, rather it felt accessible, engaging, and meaningful. This has genuinely motivated me to genuinely commit to learning 中文 (Mandarin), what started as a fleeting interest and a need to just pass has honestly turned into a long-term interest. And for all that I’ve said, what I really mean to say is that I’m truly grateful to Yue Laoshi for creating such a memorable environment.

Ms Yue has a special ability to create an enriching and engaging learning environment that encourages a high morale across the class. She instils a strong desire to learn within the students from the very beginning, something that only grows stronger throughout the semester as she never fails to have a full classroom. I really appreciate how Ms Yue dedicates time to get to know her students, and also ensures that no one falls behind as she consistently checks on each student's progress. I think one of the main things that is a true testament to her teaching is the fact that the students want to apply their learning outside the classroom and develop their own skills in their own time. This really shows the impact of what great teaching looks like.

I just wanted to express my gratitude for your outstanding teaching this semester. Chinese was definitely my favourite class that I took whilst here on exchange, and I really appreciate your ability to create such an enriching and engaging learning environment. I really feel like I have gained a solid foundation in Chinese, and I feel greatly inspired to continue learning it.
Angelique (Exchange student from Australia)
Min Yue is a very pleasant teacher whose teaching style manages to consistently engage and captivate the attention of her students. You can sense that many of the students feel passionately about the course as a direct result of her teaching, much more than can be said for a vast majority of the optional courses offered by the university.

Even though Chinese is such a complicated and hard language to learn, Becky (Min Yue) managed to make all classes entertaining and ensured that everyone can learn at their own pace

Becky is a patient and thorough teacher who inspires her students with a lot of confidence. I benefitted hugely from Becky's help in preparing for my university Chinese exam and I would recommend anyone who is serious about developing their Chinese language to study with her.
Gabriel (student from SOAS)
Becky has taught me for over a year now and I am so happy that I found her. Becky is a great teacher that understands how to cater to her students’ needs. Moreover Becky's teaching is accessible and engaging, even when tackling difficult material. Becky also always has confidence in her students which has helped me tremendously.
